Adriatic Sea, summer season, and the eternal drama about food prices! While many tourists and locals complain that everything is too expensive, Croatian blogger Jadranko Hodak, known as Krule, is busting myths and claims prices are not astronomical at all. In a viral Facebook video, Hodak shared a restaurant bill from Sukošan where he paid 24 euros for a portion of fried Adriatic squid and 4 euros for draft beer. Yes, you read that right — 24 euros for squid! But wait, these aren’t frozen supermarket squid; these are real, fresh Adriatic squid served with homemade fries cut by hand.
“Expensive? No way!” says Hodak. “The sea isn’t a lake, a stream, or a sewer. These are Adriatic squid, and the beer is cold and large. Should squid cost 8 euros and beer 1.20?” he asks, clearly stating the price is justified by quality.
Of course, his post sparked a storm of comments. Some believe the price is fair because the food is top-notch and the portion is generous, while others compare it to prices in other countries and think it’s still too expensive. But have you ever paid 40 euros for a sandwich with a little cheese and traces of salami in Norway? So squid for 24 euros in Croatia sounds like a bargain in comparison!
Hodak challenges skeptics to show exactly where they can get squid for 8 euros because he hasn’t seen it. While some complain, others enjoy homemade food and friendly staff.
So next time you complain about prices on the Adriatic, remember you might be paying for quality, not just the price. And if you have a different opinion, feel free to share it — after all, who doesn’t love a good debate over beer and squid? Just watch out that your bill doesn’t end up bigger than the squid itself!
