Morava Airport: Small Airport with Big Ambitions and Problems
Tomorrow, on Vidovdan, Morava Airport in Lađevci celebrates six years of operation. But is it really a success or just a small airport with big dreams? With over 50,000 passengers so far, this airport located between Čačak and Kraljevo offers flights to Thessaloniki, Tivat, and Istanbul, and plans to expand routes to Vienna, Northern Italy, and Germany.
But wait! The first civilian flight was the Vienna route, but it was suspended after a few months. Although passenger numbers have increased by 30% this year, the airport still serves only three destinations.
The airport has the advantages of smaller airports: no long waits, efficient passport control, and free parking! Yes, you read that right – free parking, which is a real rarity these days.
However, the airport’s development is not without problems. Projects like the cargo logistics center were stalled due to highway construction, and now the spatial plan for further development is being finalized. Also, the airport currently operates only ATR aircraft, but plans to renew the Vienna line and introduce new destinations.
Private air taxi flights are popular among businessmen from Čačak, Kraljevo, Novi Pazar, and Kragujevac, who use the airport for quick and efficient flights.
While it sounds like a success story, Morava Airport is still in development and faces many challenges. Will it become a serious player on the regional aviation map or remain just a local airport with big dreams?
If you have ever used this airport or plan to, share your experiences – is it really as great as they say, or just another project dragging on?
