After Marko Perković Thompson’s controversial concert at the Hipodrom, Croatian society and politics exploded into chaos that no one really expected, but everyone knew was coming. The concert, which gathered half a million people, was not just a musical event – it was a political earthquake exposing deep divisions and problems in society.
Everything worked like clockwork technically and organizationally, but the messages spreading were anything but harmless. Politicians scrambled to justify or condemn the event, while in parliament the shocking “Za dom spremni” salutes echoed, sparking divided reactions. Jandroković refused to be the arbiter, leaving viewers to judge for themselves.
The HDZ party played its usual role perfectly – adapting to the situation, avoiding confrontation, and ultimately openly supporting Thompson and his crowd, who have been spitting on the country they’ve been leading for 25 years. The Homeland Movement and Thompson’s ideas are now part of the political arena, and even Milanović can’t pose a serious threat to this coalition.
The biggest paradox? Tomašević, who once attended Thompson’s concerts, is now the least to blame for what’s happening. The concert changed everything – the electoral base strengthened, and society showed it can only unite around simple, fan-like emotions, while more complex ideas remain far from mass support.
This event showed that the spirit of hatred and intolerance was long ago released from the bottle and is now only spreading, exploiting political opportunities and people’s fears. Instead of facing problems, politicians ignore or even use them for their own goals, while ordinary people bear the consequences. The concert was just the tip of the iceberg, and the real battle is yet to come.
If you think music is just sound, think again – in this case, the message was clear and dangerous. So, what do you think? Is this the start of a new era or just another political circus? Drop a comment, let the people’s voice be heard!
