Imagine this – while most young people chase trends and easy jobs, Arijana Tomić, a 24-year-old girl from Belgrade, decided to dedicate her life to something most of us avoid – makeup for the dead! Yes, you read that right. While others run from death, she embraced it as her calling and started a small business.
Arijana finished medical high school and is studying medicine, but she decided to leave it all behind and take a path many consider taboo. She says she loves her job because the moment she closes the coffin, she forgets everything. She’s not afraid of death, but of living people and their reactions.
At first, her parents thought she was joking, but when she did her first job, they realized she was serious. The first time she took a brush to makeup a corpse, her hand trembled with fear, but soon she understood how important her work is.
Clients often ask for their loved ones to look natural, as if alive, with spots removed and eyelashes added. Arijana says the job isn’t hard, but the hardest part is seeing little children crying next to the coffin.
This young woman is unique in Belgrade and shows that there are people who aren’t afraid of death, but of life and society’s reactions. Her story is touching but raises questions – how ready are we to accept death as part of life?
If you thought makeup was only for fashion shows and weddings, think again. Arijana Tomić proves that even the dead deserve to be presented with dignity. So, would you have the guts to do this job? Or are you already so fed up with life that you fear the dead? Share your thoughts, maybe Arijana will teach us something new!
