The Murder Shaking Montenegro: Was Balijagić Sane? Court Chaos and Victims’ Family Outrage!
Judge Dragan Dašić announced that the decision on Balijagić’s sanity, accused of killing multiple people, will be known within eight days. Although Balijagić did not plead guilty, during the hearing he admitted to the crime he is charged with. However, he denies conducting a search in the house, claiming he was only looking for a bandage because he cut his finger on a broken window while entering, which left his bloody traces everywhere.
Balijagić questioned the DNA traces found in the house and on the weapon, stating that his are not disputed but wants to determine whose other fingerprints were found. His defense attorney, Milorad Vlahović, requested the indictment be returned for revision because a psychiatric evaluation, crucial for assessing the defendant’s sanity, was not conducted during the investigation. Vlahović claims Balijagić is mentally unstable and committed the act in a state of strong agitation or affect, without prior planning or cunning.
The victims’ family, led by Velibor Madžgalj, brother of the murdered, demands to find out who helped Balijagić and to quickly initiate proceedings against the police officers involved before and after the murder. Madžgalj is outraged, believing Balijagić currently has police assistance and that a plea deal was sought with a request for 30 years in prison, the maximum sentence he can receive.
The indictment states that on October 25 last year, Balijagić killed Jovan and Milenka Madžgalj in Sokolac near Bijelo Polje. All evidence was obtained legally, and his confession is confirmed by material evidence, including DNA traces inside and outside the house, as well as ballistic expertise linking Balijagić to the weapon.
