Ready for the apocalypse? The Balkans are burning like never before! While North Macedonia battles a massive forest fire near Valandovo, where fire and dry grass combined with strong winds and high temperatures have created a blazing inferno, the entire southern Europe is melting under heatwaves with temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius!
In North Macedonia, firefighters from Valandovo and Gevgelija are on the ground, but the situation is dire. The Crisis Management Center had to call for aerial assistance as the fire spreads rapidly, threatening populated areas. Dry grass and wind are a perfect recipe for disaster.
But it’s not just North Macedonia in trouble. Southern Europe, including Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Greece, faces extreme heat. In Portugal, two-thirds of the country is on high alert due to wildfire risks, with Lisbon expecting temperatures over 42 degrees! Greece is also on edge, with fire warnings and the first summer heatwave expected to last the entire weekend.
To make matters worse, in Croatia near Kaštela, a fire has engulfed 25 hectares, and firefighters are struggling with winds that prevent aerial firefighting. A total of 113 people are on the ground, but the air tankers can’t fly due to dangerous turbulence.
This fiery disaster is not just a natural catastrophe but a wake-up call for all of us. Will we let fire and heat destroy us? Or will we finally realize it’s time for serious climate action?
