Bane Vidaković, a well-known actor, was admitted to a toxicology ward in Belgrade just two days ago after overdosing on methadone and buprenorphine. His relative found him in a state of complete disorientation and drowsiness and immediately took him to the hospital. Bane was in very poor condition, at times losing consciousness and unable to explain how many pills he had taken. After several hours, he managed to tell the doctors that he had taken two boxes of methadone combined with buprenorphine. Fortunately, after all necessary tests and treatment, he was released for home care and recovery.
The actor had previously spoken openly about his battle with addiction and how the disease destroyed his marriage. At just 23, he met his ex-wife Jasa, a model from a hairdressing show, and soon they had two children – a son Mateja and a daughter Majda. Their marriage was an “artistic” one, meaning they rarely saw each other. Bane worked like a horse, wanting to provide a standard of living for his family, but struggles with opiates and unstable work led to problems. Debts piled up, and his wife was left alone with the children without help. Bane long blamed himself for the breakup and the suffering of his children.
He revealed how he managed to quit heroin – without any medication, “cold turkey,” which was extremely hard and dangerous. He lay at his mother’s place, who brought him soups and changed his bedding while he went through the hell of withdrawal. Afterwards, a doctor told him he was very lucky his organs remained intact but warned him never to try quitting “cold turkey” again as it could be life-threatening.
This story is a brutal reminder of how dangerous addiction is and how it can destroy not only the individual but the entire family. Bane Vidaković is now on the road to recovery, but his fight continues. If you think it’s easy, think again – this is a war for life and dignity.
