Balkan Music Bombshell in Bar!
Tonight, at the summer stage of the Vladimir Popović Cultural Center in Bar, the musical segment of the 38th Barski Ljetopis festival kicks off, and the headliner is none other than the Barcelona Gipsy Balkan Orchestra! This band, founded over a decade ago in Barcelona, has become a true phenomenon on the international music scene.
Who are they? The Barcelona Gipsy Balkan Orchestra brings together musicians from multiple countries, united by a passion for traditional music from the Balkans, the Mediterranean, and Eastern Europe. Their repertoire is a linguistic and musical adventure – they sing in Serbian, Romani, Turkish, Romanian, Albanian, Italian, Spanish, Russian… all performed with their own modern arrangements that elevate traditional forms to a new level.
Lineup changes? After longtime vocalist Sandra Sangiao left in 2019, Italian singer Margarita Abita joined the band, bringing a fresh vibe and the album “New Era.” Their seventh album, simply titled “7,” was released in 2022, marking a new chapter in their work.
Who’s playing? The lineup is a true international crew: Margarita Abita (Italy) on vocals, Ivan Kovačević (Serbia) on double bass, Julien Chanal (France) on guitar, Pere Nolasc Turu (Spain) on violin, Fernando Salinas (Spain) on accordion, Xavi Pendón (Spain) on clarinet, and Albert Enkaanko (Spain) on percussion.
Why you can’t miss it? The concert starts at 9 PM, and entrance is free!
