This morning, Belgrade was the scene of traffic chaos, but not because of traffic jams or accidents. No, it was because of a small but persistent group of blockers who decided to harass citizens. From early morning, just after 7 AM, the streets and bridges of Belgrade were passable, but the blockers tried to create jams at key spots like the fountain, Ada, the Law Faculty, and Vidikovac. Of course, as soon as the police appeared, the blockers scattered like they saw the devil. Their only goal? To stop normal life and traffic, to harass people who just want to get to work or run their daily errands.
A small group of blockers gathered at Republic Square, then blocked the entrance to the Terazije tunnel with containers, but dispersed as soon as the police arrived. A similar scene repeated at the intersection of Despot Stefan Boulevard and Braće Jugovića street. The police detained 19 troublemakers overnight, and one police officer was injured. The Ministry of Internal Affairs appeals to citizens not to participate in illegal blockades that endanger the safety of all traffic participants.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić issued a fatherly appeal to the blockers last night, asking them not to destroy Serbia. He pointed out that a new factory is opening in Čačak and that a new highway will open in 48 hours, which is a joy for all citizens. However, there are those who do not love Serbia and have decided to make life difficult with blockades. Vučić emphasized that the state will not allow violence and will take all necessary measures to protect public order and peace.
This situation is not only a problem in Belgrade but also in other cities like Valjevo, Kraljevo, and Čačak, where incidents and arrests for disturbing public order have also been recorded. The blockades caused chaos and fear among citizens, including children traumatized by the sounds and chaos on the streets.
Despite everything, the police remain firm and ready to act according to the law. The Ministry of Internal Affairs clearly states that anyone planning illegal blockades will be sanctioned. The fatherly call from President Vučić to end the blockades and respect the law echoes as the last chance for peace and stability in the country.
If you thought blockades were just harmless demonstrations, think again. They have become a tool to harass ordinary people, to stop life and work. And the state? The state must show it exists and will not allow life to turn into chaos. What do you think about these blockades? Are they justified or just unnecessary harassment?
