Belgrade Blockades: Police Mean Business, Blockaders Under Fire!
The first working day in Belgrade brought chaos to the streets, but not because of traffic jams — it’s the stubborn blockaders causing havoc and driving citizens crazy. While traffic mostly flows normally, certain streets like Jurija Gagarina and the main street in Zemun became battlegrounds between blockaders and police.
Groups determined to stop traffic ignored warnings, forcing police to act swiftly and decisively. In New Belgrade, police removed blockaders from Jurija Gagarina street, while in Zemun, traffic was disrupted due to blockades on the main street.
The situation in Užice was even more dramatic. Citizens broke through a police cordon and blocked the Ibarska magistrala in the Krčagovo neighborhood. After warnings and orders to clear the road, the blockaders were removed by the gendarmerie unit. Two men were arrested but released shortly after; administrative proceedings will follow.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs made it clear that everyone involved in blockades will be identified and prosecuted, as blocking traffic is a criminal offense. The City Transport Secretariat pointed out that the problematic spots are exactly those blocked streets, making life even harder for Belgrade residents.
To make matters worse, former reality show participant Marko Petrušević, aka Petrući, was arrested after attacking a police officer while intoxicated. Clearly, the chaos on Belgrade’s streets is far from over, and citizens are growing increasingly frustrated with daily blockades and violence.
If you think this is the end, think again. Police promise to continue identifying and prosecuting all who disrupt public order. Belgrade is on edge, and the question is how long citizens will tolerate such scenes on their streets.
