Belgrade Chaos: Police vs Blockaders – Who’s to Blame for the Violence?

Belgrade is on the brink of chaos again! After the official end of the student protest, the streets turned into a battlefield between police and demonstrators. Police Director Dragan Vasiljević condemned the violence and attacks on officers, revealing that six police officers were injured. It all started at Slavija Square, where blockaders tore down metal fences and charged at the police cordon. After 56 minutes of attacks, the police had to intervene with force but denied using chemical agents as some media reported.

The unrest continued on Kneza Miloša street, where demonstrators tried to break through the police cordon. They threw stones, bottles, and pyrotechnics at the police. Several dozen people were arrested, and the chief prosecutor announced that all attackers will be prosecuted. On the other side, SNS supporters gathered in Pionirski Park, where the atmosphere was completely different – with songs by Lepa Brena and support for the authorities.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić clearly stated that the state will not accept ultimatums and that the police will not allow violence. Speaker of the Parliament Ana Brnabić emphasized that Serbia has played the end of terror and that blockaders cannot change anything. All this is happening on the eve of Vidovdan, which further fuels tensions in the capital.

This situation raises many questions: Did the police overreact? Are the demonstrators truly peaceful or violent? Where is the line between the right to protest and disturbing public order? If you have an opinion, feel free to share it – maybe you have the answer to the chaos shaking Belgrade!
