Belgrade is up again, but not because of some big event or political drama, but because of something that annoys us all – mosquitoes! The public utility company “Gradska Čistoća” announces the continuation of the adult mosquito control action on Monday, July 14th, starting at 5:30 PM, covering over 30 locations across the city. Yes, you read that right – from Ada Huja, through Topčiderski Park, to Zemun Polje and Batajnica Shanghai, no one is spared this summer. But will this action be a salvation or just another reason to get annoyed?
First, let’s clarify – treatments will only be carried out if weather conditions allow, meaning rain, wind, or low temperatures can delay or cancel plans. Citizens are asked for patience and understanding, and beekeepers are warned to protect their bees as biocidal products registered by the Ministry of Environmental Protection are used. So, no need to panic, but don’t get too optimistic either.
Now, what can you do? It is recommended to close windows, empty all standing water in yards, find and remove saucers, old tires, barrels, and the like, and use repellents. All this to enable the teams to work unhindered. But honestly, how many of us actually do this? How many even know where these locations are and whether the treatment will be effective?
While city teams fight mosquitoes, we wonder – is this just a seasonal farce or does someone really care about our comfort? Mosquitoes are here, buzzing, biting, and we hope this action will bring at least some relief. If you notice an increased number of mosquitoes, you can report it to the Belgrade City Service Center, but will it change anything?
In any case, get ready for another summer spectacle – spraying in parks and streets, the smell of chemicals in the air, and, of course, mosquitoes that persistently return. If you have a good story or advice on how to deal with these little pests, feel free to share in the comments. Maybe your idea will save this summer!
And yes, if you thought this was just another boring news, remember – mosquitoes decide who will enjoy summer evenings and who will scratch themselves senseless. So, whose side are you on?
