Belgrade Customs Stop 100 Kilograms of Cut Tobacco Smuggling – Border Drama Unfolds!

Belgrade Customs Stop 100 Kilograms of Cut Tobacco Smuggling – Border Drama Unfolds!

Did you know that a fierce battle against smugglers is fought daily at our borders? On July 1st, customs officers in Belgrade showed they mean business! During a thorough inspection, they stopped an attempt to smuggle a whopping 100 kilograms of cut tobacco. Yes, you read that right – one hundred kilograms!

The driver tried to flee the checkpoint, but our customs officers weren’t having any of it. The car and the driver were immediately handed over to the police for further action.

This isn’t an isolated incident – just days earlier, on June 26th, customs officers, working with the police, seized 27 air rifles hidden in a van on the Šabac-Loznica road. The driver and passenger were arrested, and the weapons handed over to the police.

Clearly, smuggling isn’t slowing down, but our customs officers are ready to fight and stop every attempt. Still, one has to wonder – how many such attempts go unnoticed?

Why is tobacco and weapon smuggling still a problem?

Smuggling tobacco and weapons isn’t just a legal issue; it’s a security threat. Illegal tobacco destroys the domestic market and cuts state revenues, while weapon smuggling can have serious public safety consequences.

Our customs officers risk their lives daily to stop these illegal activities, but does the state give them enough support?

What do the numbers say?

In June this year, the Customs Administration achieved a 16% increase in revenue collection, showing that the fight against smuggling pays off. Over 350 million euros were collected, about 10% more than last year.

But while the numbers rise, smuggling doesn’t stop. Is this a sign that the market is still fertile ground for illegal operators?

Conclusion: Customs officers are heroes, but the problem is far from solved!

Our customs officers are on the front lines against smuggling. Their courage and persistence deserve praise. But as tobacco and weapon smuggling continues, it’s clear that even greater coordination and support from all institutions is needed.

While smuggler drivers try to outsmart the system, our customs officers don’t give up. What about you? Do you think the state is doing enough to stop these criminal activities? Or is this just the tip of the iceberg? Drop a comment and let’s see who’s for and who’s against!
