Belgrade is Changing: New International Port and Traffic Chaos Under Control?

Belgrade is gearing up for a transport and tourism revolution! At the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, near the Gazela bridge, a new international port is rising that will change the game. After more than half a century of neglect, the first phase of works is underway – cleaning the riverbank and reconstructing fortifications to boost the city’s safety. But that’s not all! The new port will be located at the 14th kilometer of the Sava river, meaning this entire stretch will be conquered, allowing visitors and participants of the specialized Expo exhibition to arrive faster and easier than ever before.

Meanwhile, construction is ongoing on a new 18.5-kilometer electrified railway line connecting the city center, Nikola Tesla airport, the Expo complex, and the national stadium. This line will have two tracks and three new stops, including one at the national stadium. All this aims to reduce traffic jams and improve mobility in the capital.

But wait, there’s more! Four new boulevards are being built to connect the Sava river area with highways, and one of them, tentatively called “New 4,” is already taking shape. This boulevard will pass under the overpass of the future railway and will be key to linking all the new transport points.

This is the result of a complex traffic study that tried to answer how Belgrade will handle the massive influx of guests during the Expo event and afterward. Everything is carefully designed so the transport infrastructure can handle the pressure and the city finally gets a modern and efficient transport network.

So, Belgrade is stepping into the 21st century in style – with a new port, railway, boulevards, and plenty of promises. But will it all really work, or will we be watching chaos on the streets again? Only time will tell. What do you think? Will this infrastructure project save Belgrade from traffic nightmares, or is it just another dream that will crumble on the asphalt? Drop a comment and let’s see who’s optimistic and who’s skeptical!
