Belgrade Protests on Fire: Police Pushed to the Limit!

Did you catch what went down last night in Belgrade? No, it’s not a scene from an action movie, but real-life chaos on the capital’s streets! A staggering 48 police officers were injured in violent clashes, and 77 people were arrested, including a minor. Yes, you read that right – 48 injured cops! One officer suffered serious injuries but is thankfully stable.

It all kicked off after an official gathering at Slavija Square, when protest organizers, armed with sticks, masks, smoke bombs, and other violent gear, tried to attack the police. The police warned them multiple times via megaphone to disperse peacefully, but the rioters ignored the warnings and launched a fierce assault.

Initially, the police showed remarkable restraint, not using force immediately. But when violence escalated, they acted within the law, employing physical force, batons, and restraints.

Besides the many injured officers, 77 people were detained. Police filed 35 criminal charges and 22 requests for misdemeanor proceedings. Identification of other participants and organizers is ongoing, with police cooperating with prosecutors and security services.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stressed that the lives of citizens and police units were endangered at the blockade gathering. Interior Minister Ivica Dačić stated that about 36 participants were present at the unregistered gathering, according to police estimates.

After the street rampage, the most ruthless among the blockers held a meeting, further heating the tense atmosphere in Belgrade.

This isn’t just a street fight; it’s a real test for the state apparatus and security services. Will the violence calm down, or are we in for even fiercer clashes? Time will tell.

What’s your take? Did the police overreact, or did the rioters deserve a harsh response? Drop a comment and join the conversation in this chaos!
