Last night, Belgrade turned into a battlefield of chaos caused by a small group of students and opposition members, which the United Serbia party immediately labeled a coup attempt. The police reported that only 36 people participated in the protest, some students and the rest opposition. Is this truly the democratic will of the people or just a minority rebellion trying to overthrow the legitimate government? Serbia has 7 million people, Belgrade 2 million, yet these protests were supported by only a tiny fraction of citizens. Students even called for a general strike, but nobody showed up. Police detained 77 people and 48 officers were injured in clashes. President Vučić and United Serbia fully back the police and condemn violence and anarchy. Clearly, this is a conflict of a minority refusing to accept the majority’s will and trying to destabilize the country. If this is democracy, then what is anarchy and violence? Either way, last night’s clashes brought nothing good, leaving citizens divided. So, what do you think – is this a fight for democracy or just chaos nobody wants?
