Belgrade is on fire with protests that have turned into pure chaos! The students and citizens known as “Students in Blockade” raised their voices against the government with an ultimatum that expired on June 21, demanding early parliamentary elections and the end of gatherings in Pioneer Park. But the government didn’t budge, and President Aleksandar Vučić coldly announced that the ultimatum was not accepted and that incidents would occur. And sure enough, violence erupted between 8:45 PM and 9:45 PM, just as Vučić predicted. The police responded brutally, using tear gas and artillery-like blasts, while protesters tried to break police cordons and retaliated by throwing objects. Interior Minister Ivica Dačić didn’t hold back either – he promised sanctions for any attempts at violence and condemned brutal attacks on the police. Professor Dragana Mitrović from the Faculty of Political Sciences finally admitted that law enforcement is restoring order but made it clear the state cannot tolerate ultimatums. All this is happening amid months-long student protests sparked by a tragedy in Novi Sad, where 16 people died under a canopy. Students demand criminal and political responsibility for the tragedy, while authorities try to silence every voice of dissent. On the streets of Belgrade, clashes have become daily, and citizens are split between supporting the students and fearing escalation of violence. This sounds like the perfect recipe for even bigger chaos and political crisis. If you think this is the end, you’re wrong – it’s just the beginning. So, what do you think? Are the students heroes or hooligans? Is the government overreacting or is violence inevitable? Drop a comment, spark a debate, or just enjoy this madness unfolding right before our eyes!
