Belgrade Public Transport on the Brink of Meltdown!
If you thought riding public transport in Belgrade was easy and predictable, brace yourself for a shock! Starting August 15th, due to construction works on the secondary water and sewage network in Banatska Street, Zemun, the operation of several public transport lines will be drastically changed.
Chaos in Zemun Streets
Because the right traffic lane on Cara Dušana Street will be occupied, vehicles will only be able to use the free left lane heading towards the city. Similarly, the right lane on Banatska Street, heading towards Ugrinovačka, will be occupied, forcing public transport vehicles to use altered routes.
Who Will Go Where?
Line 85 towards the “Bubanj Potok” terminus will operate via Pupinov Most, Cara Dušana, Filipa Višnjića, and Ugrinovačka streets, while in the opposite direction it will run normally. Other lines, including 84 and 105L, will also have altered routes in certain directions but will run normally in the opposite direction.
New Stops and Additional Complications
On the altered parts of the routes, existing and newly established stops such as “Filipa Višnjića 1” and “Filipa Višnjića 2” will be used. This means passengers will have to adapt to new routes and stops, which will surely cause confusion and dissatisfaction.
Ongoing Works and More Traffic Woes
This is not the only problem in Belgrade’s traffic this summer. Reconstruction works at Sveti Sava Square in Novo Naselje and road surface repairs at Republic Square further complicate the situation. Additionally, massive traffic jams and multi-kilometer queues on the Belgrade-Niš highway, as well as a chain collision in the Železnik tunnel, add to the burden on drivers and passengers.
Is This the End of Traffic Troubles?
The City of Belgrade announces continued construction of highways and express roads, but until then, citizens will have to navigate this chaos.
Conclusion
If you plan to use public transport in Zemun or nearby areas, prepare for surprises and extra travel time. The works are necessary, but the way they are organized and communicated to the public often leaves much to be desired.
So, how are you coping with this Belgrade transport madness? Got any hilarious stories from line 85 or 105L? Share in the comments, let’s laugh or vent together!
