Belgrade Under Storm Siege: Public Services Battle the Aftermath

Belgrade in Chaos Due to Storm: Winds up to 70 km/h, Rain Over 30 Liters per Square Meter!

Belgrade has been hit by a meteorological nightmare yesterday and today! The city’s Secretary for Defense and Emergency Situations, Darko Glavaš, announced that the entire city was affected by storm winds reaching speeds of 70 kilometers per hour and heavy rainfall exceeding 30 liters per square meter.

Public Services Working Overtime – But Is It Enough?

All teams from public communal enterprises, including Cleaning Services, Belgrade Waterworks and Sewerage, Greenery, Belgrade Roads, and Public Lighting, were on active duty. They cleaned and unclogged drains, removed branches and loose construction materials, repaired traffic signs, fixed damages on trolleybus networks and tram tracks, and dealt with fallen streetlight poles.

But is it enough? Dozens of uprooted trees caused chaos on the streets, damaging vehicles. Seven people suffered minor injuries, and one person was seriously hurt. According to the records of the public enterprise Zelenilo, 84 reports of uprooted trees and branches threatening electrical installations and roads are still being processed.

Material Damage and Danger Everywhere

Belgrade Roads had 33 interventions, and Public Lighting had eight due to fallen poles. The electricity distribution company had nearly as many emergency interventions. All this while citizens tried to cope with the weather chaos.

The storm brought not only rain and wind but real havoc on the streets, with damaged roofs, tiles, and massive trees falling like dominoes.

What’s Next?

The city secretary emphasized that teams will continue working through the night and the coming days until all consequences are fully resolved. But is this just the beginning? Meteorologists warn of possible new supercell storms and scorching temperatures that could hit us again.

It’s clear that Belgrade is not prepared for such weather disasters, and the question remains how much more damage and danger we will have to endure before serious preventive measures are implemented.

Conclusion: Belgrade on the Brink of a Weather Collapse!

The storm showed how vulnerable the city is. Public services are working heroically, but nature is relentless. Will the authorities finally realize it’s time for serious investments in infrastructure and prevention? Or will we keep watching trees fall, roofs fly off, and people get injured?
