Belgrade was thrown into chaos last night and this morning due to street blockades organized by students and groups of citizens across the city and Serbia. The police removed blockades overnight from key traffic routes like Gazela Bridge, Autokomanda, Vuk’s Monument, and other locations, but traffic jams and delays in public transport persist. Several people were detained for disturbing public order and attacking police, and one police vehicle was damaged. Public transport is slowly returning to normal, but passengers are still waiting hours for the first departures, especially on bus lines 31 and 17. Tram lines mostly started running on schedule, but blockades reappeared at the corner of Gandijeva and Yuri Gagarin streets in New Belgrade, further slowing traffic. Heavy congestion remains at critical points such as Autokomanda, Mostarska petlja, Slavija roundabout, and the Belgrade – Crveni Krst highway. Police stated they acted professionally and traffic is now mostly normalized, but citizens still feel the impact of the night’s blockades. This situation caused major problems for everyone relying on public transport and traffic in Belgrade daily, and the big question remains how long full normalization will take and whether such blockades will happen again.
