Belgrade is in chaos, and the culprits are – students! Yes, you read that right. While most of us struggle with daily responsibilities, small groups of students have decided to block public transport and intersections all over the city. GSP was operating normally this morning, except in Zemun where bus traffic was temporarily halted due to a blockade. But that’s not all! In recent days, as many as 30 GSP lines have not been running because of intersection blockades. It all started as support for arrested students suspected of planning a violent change to the constitutional order, but now the situation has spiraled out of control.
Just imagine – the streets of Belgrade turned into a battlefield, and ordinary citizens trapped in their own city. This morning, there was a minor traffic disruption on King Alexander Boulevard, in front of the Law Faculty, which was quickly resolved, but that’s just a drop in the ocean of problems. Students have blocked faculties and intersections, with support from citizens who seem indifferent to the chaos they are causing.
GSP pulled vehicles back to depots, and traffic was interrupted in multiple locations. All this because of protests that started on June 28 and have now escalated into full-blown chaos. Is this the way to solve problems? Or just an excuse to create disorder and disrupt the lives of ordinary people?
If you thought public transport in Belgrade was reliable, think again. Students have shown they can bring the entire city to a halt, while authorities seem powerless. Will the situation calm down, or will we see even more blockades and disruptions? Only time will tell.
What do you think about these blockades? Are the students right, or are they just causing trouble? Drop a comment, maybe you’ll surprise us all!
