Chaos in Belgrade Streets: Students Block the City, Police Count Tens of Thousands!

Did you hear? An unregistered protest took place at Slavija Square in Belgrade with around 36,000 people, according to police estimates! Yes, you read that right – thirty-six thousand! This is not a small gathering; it’s a massive crowd capable of shutting down the entire city.

This number of participants is three times larger than the protest on March 15, and similar to the one on December 22 last year. Students and groups of citizens are blocking faculties and streets, and their support is unwavering.

But it’s not all peaceful. There have been clashes with the police during the protests. Chief Public Prosecutor Nenad Stefanović clearly stated that everyone who attacked police officers will be prosecuted. Violence will not be tolerated, he warns, but the students continue with blockades and protests.

Belgrade’s streets were blocked, traffic was chaotic, and public transport barely functioned. All this due to dissatisfaction with the detention of students suspected of planning a violent change of the constitutional order and support for those arrested.

This chaos has been going on for days, and the authorities and police are at their wit’s end. Will the situation calm down or escalate? One thing is certain – Belgrade is not the same city it was a few weeks ago.

If you have your own take on these events or a joke about the blockades, feel free to share. Let the voice of the people be heard because in this chaos, every word counts!
