Chaos in Belgrade Streets: Police Injured, Students Arrested, and the State Claims Perfect Response

The streets of Belgrade turned into a battlefield last night! After student protests that blocked roads across Serbia, clashes with police erupted. State Secretary Đorđe Dabić praises the government’s response, claiming the police were just doing their job and that attacks on them were “unjustified and unacceptable.” But is that really the case?

Interior Minister Ivica Dačić reports that 48 police officers were injured during the clashes, 22 citizens were detained, totaling 77 people, with 38 held in custody. One officer suffered serious head injuries, reportedly from a stone or brick thrown at the police.

The clashes took place at multiple locations in Belgrade, including Slavija Square, Gazela Bridge, and Pančevački Bridge, with protests spreading to other cities like Novi Sad. Students demanded the dissolution of parliament and early elections, while the government urged police to break up the gatherings.

Meanwhile, two more people were arrested in Belgrade on suspicion of preparing a coup d’état, bringing the total number of suspects to eight. The charges include planning attacks on state institutions and blocking critical infrastructure.

While the government claims it responded correctly and the police maintained order, citizens and students see a different picture — clashes, violence, and repression. Is this really a fight for law and order or just another way to silence dissent?

If you thought this was the end of the story, think again! The situation remains tense, and protests continue. Will the government manage to calm the tensions, or will the clashes only escalate? Drop a comment and tell us what you think — did the police go too far, or did the students cross the line?

One thing is for sure: Belgrade showed last night it’s ready for real drama, and we’ll be watching every step of this heated situation.
