Belgrade Traffic Nightmare: One Hour to Cover Just 14 Kilometers Due to Rain!

Belgrade turned into a traffic nightmare today! Heavy rain caused a total gridlock on the roads, and driving from TC Zmaj to Dušanovac, a stretch of just 14 kilometers, took nearly an hour! Yes, you read that right — an hour to cover 14 kilometers! Normally, this route takes about 13 minutes, but today it was a true nightmare for drivers.

The worst-hit area was New Belgrade, where streets like Jurija Gagarina, Surčinska, and Block 72 were completely jammed. The traffic chaos also hit Despota Stefana street, Dom omladine, and the Branko and Pančevački bridges, with jams spreading to other parts of the city. City cameras captured scenes straight out of an apocalyptic movie — cars stuck, and people losing their patience.

Such traffic chaos hasn’t been seen in Belgrade for a long time, and the rain only made the already tense situation worse. Drivers complained about slow movement and frustration, while pedestrians struggled to get through puddles and mud. Even Google Maps showed red zones of congestion all over the city.

It’s clear that Belgrade is not ready for such weather conditions, and the question is how many more days like this will pass before city authorities finally act and improve the traffic infrastructure. Will anything change, or will we keep standing still for hours just because of a little rain?

If you were in Belgrade today, you probably wondered if it’s better to stay home or prepare for a marathon in your car. Got any tips for surviving Belgrade’s traffic nightmares? Share your stories — maybe you’ll make us laugh or at least feel better!
