Free Summer Trips for Youth in Belgrade: Adventure Paradise or Just Another Empty Promise?
Every summer, the Belgrade Office for Youth promises unforgettable adventures for young people – and this year is no different! But is it really a paradise for youth or just another one of those promises easily forgotten?
What’s on offer? The Belgrade Office for Youth is organizing free trips for young people during July and August. The plan is to offer one thematic trip per month across Serbia, where participants can explore new cities, socialize, and take part in cultural, educational, and recreational programs – all completely free! The next trip is scheduled for July 25-27 to Banja Koviljača, with previous visits to Subotica and Vrnjačka Banja.
The goal? The director of the Office for Youth, Papić, emphasizes that the aim is to provide young people with a meaningful and dynamic holiday, develop social skills, gain new knowledge, and build healthy relationships. Through these programs, they want to raise the quality of life for youth and give them concrete tools for personal development.
But is it all sunshine and rainbows? While it sounds like a dream, many wonder how accessible this initiative really is and how many young people actually get to participate. Applications are made via Instagram, which can be a barrier for those not active on the platform or without internet access. Also, one trip per month seems like a drop in the ocean for thousands of young people in Belgrade eager to join.
What about other activities? Besides summer trips, the Office for Youth has carried out other activities such as a summer management school, sports and recreation day in Bojčinska Forest, cultural exchanges with youth from the USA, and awards within the “Stars of Belgrade” program. All these activities are also free and aim to empower youth and improve their quality of life.
What’s next? In the coming months, new activities are planned, including International Youth Day on Stara Planina, a winter management school, and youth sports olympiads. It all sounds like a great chance for young people to connect, grow, and have fun.
