When Napoli finally opened their wallet, Bologna laughed all the way to the bank! Viktor Osimhen was sold, and in came a new defensive gem – 26-year-old Dutchman Beukema, for whom Napoli paid a whopping 30 million euros plus bonuses. Bologna bought him just two years ago for 8 million, meaning they made a cool 25 million profit! Yes, you read that right – 25 million euros for one player in just two years!
Aurelio De Laurentiis, Napoli’s president, has already shown that summer is the time for big transfers. After keeping Antonio Conte, despite Juventus desperately wanting him back, Napoli signed one of the best midfielders of the last decade, Kevin De Bruyne, Noa Lang for 25 million, and Lorenzo Luka for 9 million plus a mandatory buy option. Beukema was Conte’s explicit wish to strengthen the defense, as last year’s signing Rafa Marin didn’t impress and was sent to Villarreal.
Beukema is expected to start alongside Alessandro Bonjorno, with Juan Jesus and Amir Rahmani as backups. Napoli isn’t stopping there – they plan to bring in Torino’s goalkeeper Vanja Milinković-Savić for 19.5 million, and Sevilla’s right-back Juanlu Sánchez for 17 million. All in all, these transfers could total between 40 and 50 million euros!
But it’s not all smooth sailing – Nottingham Forest has seriously bitten into the chase for the Swiss international, which could complicate things.
