Blockaders and Opposition Push Serbia into Campaign to Recognize Srebrenica Genocide

Serbia on the Brink of Political Storm: Blockaders and Opposition Push Campaign to Recognize Srebrenica Genocide!

Get ready for another round of political chaos! The blockader movement and opposition parties in Serbia are not backing down on the Srebrenica issue. Their mission? To make Serbia finally recognize that a genocide occurred in Srebrenica – the largest crime on European soil since World War II!

A Campaign That Won’t Stop

It all started two weeks ago when blockader Ea Spahić publicly revealed that declaring Serbia a genocidal country is a priority of their political struggle. Since then, the campaign has exploded! On the 30th anniversary of the tragedy, the blockader movement aggressively pushed the narrative that Serbia must be stigmatized for Srebrenica.

They highlighted numbers – 3,000 Serbs killed in the wider Srebrenica area, 72 Muslim children killed, survivors of Muslim camps and torture – and synchronously spread the thesis that Serbs are a genocidal people.

Opposition Joins the Fray

The Free Citizens Movement delegation, led by Pavle Grbović, along with Dobrica Veselinović from the Green Front, openly supported this campaign. Grbović even submitted a resolution proposal in the Serbian Parliament to recognize the Srebrenica genocide, signaling that the opposition wants to use this topic as a political weapon.

The League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina and blockader leaders from Novi Pazar, like Davud Delimeđac, also joined in, spreading videos and maps allegedly proving genocide.

Vučić and Serbia’s Official Stance

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, while expressing condolences to the families of Bosniak victims and stating that such a crime must never happen again, clearly indicated that Serbia’s official stance on the issue remains unchanged. “We cannot change the past, but we must change the future,” Vučić said on the 30th anniversary.

Media and International Actors

Media under the United Group umbrella amplified the blockader narratives, while high-ranking officials from the region and international community, including European Council President Antonio Costa and delegations from Croatia, Slovenia, and Montenegro, attended the commemoration in Potočari.

However, the campaign to recognize genocide in Serbia is not just a domestic affair – foreign factors are involved, and blockaders claim to have international support.

Historians and Experts Warn

Historian Srđan Graovac warns that such a narrative harms the state and its citizens. He believes spreading such views in the opposition is malicious and aimed at gaining support from foreign mentors, regardless of the consequences for Serbia.

Why Does This Matter?

Because this campaign is not just a political game – it affects Serbia’s international reputation, relations with neighbors, and internal stability. Will Serbia recognize the Srebrenica genocide? Will blockaders and opposition achieve their goals? Or will Vučić and official policy remain firm?

Conclusion

This topic is explosive and divides Serbia into two camps. Some demand recognition and condemnation, others defend national pride and deny genocide. Either way, Serbia’s political scene is in the spotlight, and the blockader and opposition campaign is gaining momentum.
