Blockades of Nemanjina and Kneza Miloša Intersection in Belgrade

The protest by the blocking initiative ‘Rebel University’ in front of the Government of Serbia has entered its seventh day, blocking the intersection of Nemanjina and Kneza Miloša streets in Belgrade. This blockade causes severe traffic congestion and dissatisfaction among citizens who cannot move normally, are late for work and kindergartens. The blockers, mostly university professors, have publicly expressed satisfaction with the traffic chaos caused and announced continuation of protests on Vidovdan, further escalating tensions. Left-leaning media emphasize the legitimacy of the protest and demands for change, centrist sources highlight the problems the blockades cause for citizens and call for dialogue, while right-leaning media criticize the blockers as irresponsible and anti-system, emphasizing the damage they cause to the city and its residents.

Political Perspectives:

Left: Left-leaning media focus on the legitimacy of the protest, highlighting the grievances of the university professors and their demands for political or social change. They tend to portray the blockers as activists fighting against systemic issues and emphasize the importance of their cause despite the inconvenience caused.

Center: Centrist media acknowledge the right to protest but emphasize the negative impact of the blockades on ordinary citizens, such as traffic jams and delays. They call for dialogue between protesters and authorities to find a compromise solution that respects both the right to protest and the public interest.

Right: Right-leaning media criticize the blockers harshly, labeling them as irresponsible, disruptive, and anti-system elements. They focus on the harm caused to the city’s functioning and the daily lives of citizens, portraying the protesters as selfish and inconsiderate of public order and economic activity.
