Body Found in the Sava near Ruma: Dead River or Silent Cove Strikes Again!
Did you know that the Sava River stretch between the villages of Hrtkovci and Platičevo, in the Ruma municipality, hides a dark secret? Today, the body of an unknown person was found there, and local fishermen have been warning for years about the dangers this section holds.
Dead River or Silent Cove?
This part of the Sava is known among fishermen as the “Dead River” or “Silent Cove.” Why? Because the river slows down here, creating whirlpools and natural pockets of mud and branches that act like traps, capturing everything the water brings. Trees, barrels, dead fish, and sadly, bodies.
How was the body found?
The body was spotted this afternoon by a group of fishermen boating on the river. The upper part of the body was leaning against the shore, while the lower part was submerged. Authorities were immediately notified, and police along with fire-rescue units quickly arrived and pulled the body from the water.
Identity and cause of death?
No official information is available yet about the identity, gender, or cause of death. Police have started an investigation, and more details are expected after autopsy and identification.
The river’s dangers
The shore in this area is hard to access, and most of it can only be reached by boat. Locals and fishermen say the river behaves unpredictably and has been a silent witness to similar tragedies before.
Will anything change?
This case shines a spotlight again on the dangers lurking in this part of the Sava River. Will authorities finally take steps to prevent such tragedies? Or will the “Silent Cove” keep claiming its victims?
