The summer holiday season in Greece is in full swing, and the border at Evzoni looks like a horror movie scene! Car queues stretch for kilometers, and waiting times to enter Greece last up to two hours, turning into a nightmare for many travelers. The Instagram page “Put Grčke – Trip Greece” posted a video showing massive lines and warned travelers to prepare for long waits with plenty of water and cooling.
The busiest border crossing between North Macedonia and Greece is Evzoni, where traffic jams are unprecedented, especially on weekdays. Alternative crossings like Prohor Pčinjski – Pelince or Dojran – Dojran offer less congestion but are less known. Serbian citizens can cross the border with North Macedonia using a biometric ID card without a visa, but cars require a green insurance card.
Interestingly, border control between Bulgaria and Greece has been lifted, which should ease travel for tourists going through Bulgaria to popular destinations like Thassos, Kavala, Stavros, Asprovalta, and others. However, the new EES entry-exit system, scheduled to start in November, has not yet been officially implemented, so travelers can breathe easier this season without extra procedures.
All in all, if you plan to travel to Greece this summer, brace yourself for a real border adventure, as the queues are massive and patience is a must. Don’t forget to fill up your tank and bring enough water, as waits can exceed two hours, especially in the afternoon. If possible, consider alternative border crossings to avoid the chaos at Evzoni.
