Brad Pitt, one of the most successful actors of our time, has admitted that he is not satisfied with some of his earlier roles. While many hail him as a film star, he himself believes he could have done better. Two roles, in particular, stand out as disappointments: in the films “Meet Joe Black” and “The River Wild”.
“Meet Joe Black” from 1998 was supposed to be a romantic drama that would captivate audiences. Pitt played Death, who falls in love with the daughter of a man whose life he is about to take. Despite a star-studded cast including Anthony Hopkins and Claire Forlani, critics and audiences were mixed. Many found Pitt’s acting stiff and unnatural. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film received only 45% positive reviews, with Pitt’s character described as “indeterminate” and “emotionally distant.”
The actor openly admitted that he “messed up” the role and lost his sense of direction. He felt he couldn’t find the balance between the idea of the character and the real person. After this experience, he realized he needed to trust his instincts more than his idea of what an actor should be.
The second role he was unhappy with was the younger brother in the 2000 film “The River Wild,” directed by Robert Redford. The film follows two brothers in Montana between the two world wars, with Pitt playing a passionate, risk-taking journalist. Although the film won an Oscar for Best Cinematography and was praised for its storytelling and emotional subtlety, Pitt was not satisfied with his performance. He felt he only scratched the surface of the character.
These candid admissions show that even the biggest stars have doubts and dissatisfaction. Brad Pitt has proven he is willing to acknowledge his mistakes and learn from them, making him even more human and relatable to audiences.
