After Three Decades, Bresnica Village Near Čačak Finally Gets Water – But Problems Persist!

Imagine living in the village of Bresnica near Čačak and having no water for drinking or basic needs – not just yesterday or last year, but for decades! Yes, you read that right – for over 30 years, the residents of this village have been struggling with water supply problems, especially during the hot and dry summer days when water becomes a rare commodity. And while many wonder where the water has gone, the answer lies in endless bureaucracy and slow construction works.

The public utility company “Moravac” has finally launched a project to build a distribution network with a reservoir and booster station, with the city of Čačak allocating a whopping 70 million dinars for the job. The works started a year ago and are now nearing completion. But wait – it’s not all smooth sailing! Some locals blocked the works due to personal issues, mostly related to road infrastructure, which further delayed the process.

Within the next month, about ten households in Bresnica will finally get water directly to their homes. Those who have wells are in a slightly better position, but most of the village still relies on local rivers and streams for watering crops and livestock. “Moravac” has even proposed that the city government adopt a decision on rational water consumption, as some users are using water for watering gardens and greenhouses, putting a heavy strain on the system. This decision is expected soon, and inspections will be able to sanction irresponsible consumers.

This is not just Bresnica’s problem – other villages in the Čačak municipality face similar struggles during summer. While there is finally light at the end of the tunnel, it’s clear that solving water supply issues in this part of Serbia requires much more attention and faster action. Will things really change, or will we continue to watch people in the 21st century lacking access to a basic life necessity – water?

If you ever thought water problems only happen in faraway countries, think again. Bresnica proves that even here, it can drag on for decades. Got a water supply story from your area? Share it in the comments – maybe together we’ll find a solution or at least a good reason to laugh about it!
