Today, the Montenegrin Parliament hosts a conference titled “The Future of EU Enlargement – EU Future Now.” Organized by the Parliament of Montenegro in cooperation with Istrian European Affairs, this event promises to be the hotspot for discussing the fate of EU enlargement, with a special focus on Montenegro.
The conference will be opened by the Parliament Speaker, Andrija Mandić. Key speakers include the European Parliament’s rapporteur for Montenegro, Marjan Šarec, Istrian MEP Maida Gorčević, and Ricardo Seri, the Chargé d’Affaires of the EU Delegation to Montenegro. Other participants include MEPs Reinhold Lopatka, Lukas Mandl, Vladimir Prebilič, Šerban Dimitrije, and Sturza.
But let’s be honest — how many such conferences have we seen before? How many actually led to concrete results? Montenegro has been on the long road to EU membership for years, but is this event just another photo-op for politicians to talk about the future while real problems remain unsolved?
The European Union is in crisis, enlargement is stalled, and Western Balkan countries, including Montenegro, are waiting for clear signals and concrete steps. On one hand, political figures promise quick integration; on the other, negotiations drag on for years, and reforms are difficult.
This conference is a chance to hear voices from Brussels and Podgorica, but also to ask the big question — is the EU ready for new members, or is enlargement just dead letter on paper?
If you thought this was just another boring political story, think again. This topic touches the future of the entire region, and maybe even your own life. So take a look, ask yourself some questions, and if you have something to say, don’t hesitate to share your thoughts. Who knows, maybe your critique or joke will be the spark that finally moves things forward!
