Floods Wreak Havoc in New Jersey and New York: Two Dead, Airport Chaos, and State of Emergency!
Two people tragically lost their lives in flash floods in Plainfield, New Jersey, while around 40 others were rescued thanks to swift emergency response. Plainfield’s mayor, Adrian Mapp, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of four lives in a short span — a shocking blow to the community.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency as fierce storms and flooding battered not only New Jersey but also other parts of the Northeast US, including New York City. Flood warnings were active across all five boroughs of New York, with city officials urging residents to avoid basements and low-lying areas due to the high risk of further flooding.
The storm caused utter chaos at major airports along the East Coast. At least six large airports, including JFK and LaGuardia in New York, and Newark Liberty in New Jersey, were forced to temporarily ground flights. This led to hours-long delays and massive crowds, with similar disruptions reported at airports in Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington.
According to the National Weather Service, some parts of New York received between 50 and 75 millimeters of rain in a very short time, creating extremely hazardous conditions. To make matters worse, temperatures soared to or above 38 degrees Celsius, increasing the risk of additional flooding.
Travelers reported hours of delays and flight rerouting, making travel a nightmare. Such airport and traffic chaos hasn’t been seen in a long time, all thanks to one storm that literally paralyzed the entire region.
This is yet another stark reminder of how serious climate change and extreme weather events have become. Will authorities finally wake up and take urgent action, or will we keep pretending everything is fine until nature hits us even harder?
If you got caught up in this mess or have a wild flood story, drop it in the comments — maybe we all need a little laugh amid this weather madness!
