Half a Year Since the Cetinje Massacre: Pain, Grief, and Unbearable Memories

Half a year has passed since the horrific massacre in Cetinje, where a deranged Aco Martinović killed 12 innocent people, including children and family members. The memories of those terrible moments are still fresh, and the victims’ families are inconsolably grieving. Mothers and fathers, wives and children, all left with a huge void in their hearts. Jovan (14) and Vukan (9) are just two of the many innocent lives brutally cut short by violence. Obituaries and messages of sorrow flooded Montenegrin newspapers, and the memories of them have not faded even half a year later.

The massacre began in the Velestovo tavern, where Mirko Vuletić, the owner of the tavern, was killed along with Marko Martinović (38) and Radovan Marković (70). Others were wounded in the bloody spree, and Dejan Kokotović (40) lost his life after a fierce fight. Families were left devastated, and their messages are full of pain and longing for their lost loved ones.

Aco Martinović, who committed this unprecedented crime, ultimately took his own life after being surrounded by police. A video from the crime scene shows him happily celebrating with friends just before the bloodshed, which further shocks the public.

This massacre shook not only Cetinje but the entire Montenegro and the region. Half a year later, grief and pain are still present, and the victims’ families cannot come to terms with the loss. Time does not heal all wounds, and memories of the innocent victims remain eternal.
