It’s been half a year since the horrifying massacre in Cetinje, where Aco Martinović, after New Year’s night, cold-bloodedly killed 12 innocent people, including two children, before taking his own life. This bloody spree left an indelible mark on the hearts of the victims’ families and the entire region. Among the slain were Branislav Mudraš, Mirko Vuletić, Marko Martinović, Radovan Marković, three members of the Martinović family, boys Jovan (14) and Vukan (9), and his sister Zorica Vuletić. Police, after surrounding Martinović, found him dead with a gunshot wound to the head.
Heartbreaking obituaries have appeared in Montenegrin newspapers, expressing the pain and grief of families and friends with words that tear at the heart: “Days pass, grief grows, your departure left a void that nothing can fill.” A video from the Velestovo tavern, where Martinović was seen happily celebrating with friends just before the massacre, shocked the public even more.
This event is a grim reminder of society’s dark side and raises the question of how to prevent such tragedies in the future. Police continue to investigate motives, but a bitter taste and pain remain that cannot be erased.
If you think this is just another sad news story, think again. This massacre is a warning to all of us — how vulnerable we are and how important it is for society to change. What do you think?
