Cetinje Residents Refuse Silence: Why Is the Government Ignoring the Markov and Mašanov Law?

Almost three years after the horrific massacre in Cetinje on August 12, where ten innocent lives were lost, citizens are still demanding justice and accountability. Instead of adopting the Markov and Mašanov law, which would mean life, safety, and order, the government ignores the people’s pleas. This law was supposed to introduce the harshest penalties for perpetrators, psychological evaluations for anyone who raises a hand in violence, and confiscation of weapons from offenders. But none of this has been done. The crime repeated itself on January 1, when 13 people were killed, and the government continues to stay silent while passing laws that suppress freedom of protest and expression. The people of Cetinje blocked the main road near Kruševo Ždrijelo for three hours, demanding responsibility and justice. They ask: if the government is not the killer, is it an accomplice? Why didn’t they prevent new tragedies? Why didn’t they adopt the law that would protect citizens? Instead of protection, the government punishes them with draconian fines of 10 euros for protests. The people of Cetinje declare they will not stop, will not be silenced, and will not accept living in fear. This is not a fight for the past, but for the future and for the children. If you think the law is stronger than justice, you are sorely mistaken. Justice does not ask about laws written against the people. If you have something to say, join the conversation – maybe you have the answer to the question troubling the whole city.
