Citizens Oppose Construction of New Bridges on the Ibar in North Mitrovica

STOP! ENOUGH BRIDGES ON THE IBAR!

Have you heard? A real uproar has erupted in North Mitrovica! A large crowd stood in a long line this morning to sign a petition against the construction of new bridges over the Ibar River. Why? Because there are already THREE bridges functioning smoothly, plus one pedestrian bridge. Who needs more?!

To make matters worse, the so-called Prime Minister of so-called Kosovo, Albin Kurti, laid the foundation stone on July 1 for TWO new bridges. But citizens say – it’s unnecessary, it only raises tensions, creates security risks, and changes the demographic picture of North Mitrovica.

The Serbian List organized this petition, and today is the last day to sign. After that, they plan to submit it to international missions in Kosovo responsible for security.

Why all the drama about bridges?

New bridges aren’t just construction projects. They are symbols of power and control. In this case, citizens fear that building new bridges will change the ethnic and political balance in North Mitrovica.

Is this just a local problem?

No, it’s part of a broader conflict and tensions in Kosovo. Every move that changes infrastructure can have far-reaching consequences for security and peace in the region.

What do the citizens say?

“We already have enough bridges, we don’t need more!” they say. “This is just a provocation and an attempt to change the demographic picture.”

What’s next?

The petition ends today, and the Serbian List plans to hand it over to international missions. Will this stop the construction? We’ll see. But one thing is clear – the citizens are loud and won’t stay silent.

Conclusion:

While authorities push their plans, ordinary people are protesting. Bridges aren’t just concrete structures – they are bridges between peoples, but also potential sources of conflict. In North Mitrovica, citizens say: “Enough is enough!”

If you have an opinion on this bridge drama, or maybe know a good bridge joke, feel free to drop a comment. Let the voice of the people – or at least some laughs – be heard!
