Shocking Religious Stats in Croatia: 69% Believe in God, But Only 11% Attend Mass Weekly!

Croatia in Shock: 69% Believe in God, But Only 11% Attend Weekly Mass!

Is faith in Croatia just for show? A new survey by Promocija Plus and RTL reveals that a whopping 69.3% of Croats claim to believe in God. But hold on — only 11% actually attend mass once a week! What’s going on with this so-called “strong faith”?

Faith on Paper, Not in Practice

Women are more religious than men, and older people and residents of smaller towns are more likely to believe in God. On the flip side, the least religious are among the highly educated in the northern Adriatic region. Only 14% consider themselves firmly devout, about 10% are atheists, and agnostics are half that number. The rest are indifferent or unsure about their beliefs.

Church Influence — Only a Third See It as Positive

Just one-third of respondents think the church has a positive impact on society. That’s pretty low for a country traditionally tied to the Catholic Church.

What’s Behind These Numbers?

Has belief in God become just a cultural identity, while real practice and devotion to the church fade away? Or is this a sign that society is changing and religion is losing its grip?

The Bottom Line

Croatia is a country where most people still believe in God, but the church and religious practice are drifting further from everyday life. Only 11% attend mass weekly — a wake-up call for church authorities and society alike.

So, what do you think? Surprised by these numbers? Or just another proof that faith in the 21st century is a personal choice, not social pressure? Drop a comment and let’s see who’s still loyal to the church pews and who’s just a “paper believer”!
