Environmental problems in Mojkovac are no fairy tale, but a bitter reality that affects us all! Damjan Ćulafić from the Istrian Department of Ecology and Sustainable Development, along with his team, visited Mojkovac to face real environmental challenges — from waste management to wastewater treatment and water supply. What did they find? An illegal landfill site called Zakršnica, which finally began remediation on June 8 this year, with about 95% of the work already completed! Around 3 million euros have been invested, including about 1 million euros this year alone. But that’s not all — a recycling center is planned in Mojkovac, which will be part of the regional waste management center in Bijelo Polje, covering several municipalities in the northern region. This is a chance to develop local infrastructure and increase recycling rates, which is crucial for saving our planet! However, problems don’t stop there — the municipal utility company in Mojkovac has outdated machinery, and administrative capacities are insufficient. Ćulafić promised support in this area as well, since the Istrian Department has funds to help purchase municipal equipment. Municipal representatives pointed out that Mojkovac is an example of how other municipalities should behave in solving environmental problems. Vesko Delić, the mayor, thanked for the continuous support and expressed hope that these projects will bring significant improvements to the quality of life of citizens. But is that enough? Will Mojkovac truly become a beacon of good practice in waste management and environmental protection, or will we again watch as garbage suffocates our nature? Follow along and share your thoughts — do you believe in this environmental revolution or is it just another empty story? Let the debate begin!
