Dačić on Brutal Attacks on Police During Student Protests in Belgrade

Belgrade is burning with protests, and Interior Minister Ivica Dačić is not holding back as he condemns brutal attacks on police officers. During riots that broke out at several locations, including Slavija and Kneza Miloša street, 48 police officers were injured, 22 citizens were detained, and a total of 77 people were arrested, with 38 held in custody. Dačić made it clear that the police will take all measures to restore public order, repel all attacks, and arrest everyone who attacked the police.

The clashes escalated after students and citizens blocked roads across Serbia in support of the arrested students, and protests continued even after the Vidovdan gathering. Police used tear gas and batons, and reports indicate there are seriously injured, including a police officer with a fractured cheekbone, likely from a stone or brick thrown at them.

Meanwhile, in Belgrade, two more people were arrested on suspicion of preparing a coup d’état, bringing the number of suspects to eight. The charges include planning attacks on state institutions and blocking critical infrastructure with the aim of violently changing the state order.

As the clashes continue, authorities claim they will continue to protect order and law, while students and citizens demand political accountability for the tragedy in Novi Sad that sparked the protests. The situation in Belgrade and across Serbia is becoming increasingly tense, and the question is how long this conflict between demonstrators and police will last.

If you think this is just another ordinary protest, think again. This is a real drama with injuries, arrests, and coup accusations! So, what do you think – who is the real culprit here? Drop a comment, let the people’s voice be heard!
