More than 100 Atlantic salmon have escaped from a breeding cage in the Velebit Channel in Croatia, causing concern among experts about the ecological and economic consequences. The Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries warns of the risk of genetic mixing with local species and the spread of diseases, which could threaten the ecological balance of the Adriatic Sea. The escaped fish have been observed in several areas of the northern and central Adriatic, and experts are reviewing measures to prevent the spread of this species.
