Serbia has been hit by a weather nightmare in recent days! Temperatures soared to a scorching 41 degrees Celsius, and the drought was so severe that rivers dried up, making navigation difficult. But that’s not all – after this heatwave, the country was struck by storms that brought something unusual: dust storms! Yes, you read that right – dust flew everywhere, visibility dropped to just a few meters, and traffic was thrown into chaos. In Belgrade and other parts of Serbia, hurricane-force winds broke branches, tore off roofs, and shattered windows, injuring eight people.
Why is this happening? Because of extreme drought and degraded soil, further damaged by construction sites, the wind easily lifts dust and creates real dust storms. Experts warn that Serbia still does not recognize dust storms as a serious threat and has no plans to prevent them. This could be a disaster for traffic and public safety.
While some parts of the country have recently received some rain, it’s not enough to solve the problem permanently. A new heatwave is expected next week, meaning drought and dust storms will likely return.
Will we finally realize how important it is to protect nature and soil? Or will we wait until the dust buries us? If you have thoughts on this, drop a comment – maybe together we can find a solution before the storm sweeps us away!
