In the sea in southern Croatia, specifically at the beach in Ston, a dangerous bacterium Escherichia coli has been found, leading to a swimming ban at this beach until further notice. The Dubrovnik-Neretva County confirmed a short-term fecal contamination during the fifth regular water quality testing. The results showed that the threshold values for the microbiological indicator Escherichia coli were exceeded, which is a red flag for all swimmers. Water sampling will be repeated until the contamination ceases, and the environmental protection inspection and other relevant authorities have been notified. This is not just a local issue – fecal pollution of the sea can have serious consequences for human health and tourism, especially during the peak summer season. Will the authorities manage to solve this problem before the situation worsens? The beach in Ston is currently unsafe for swimming, and citizens and tourists should be cautious. If you love the sea and summer refreshment, think twice before jumping into the water here. Have you encountered such problems on Croatian beaches? Share your experiences, maybe together we can raise awareness about the importance of clean water!
