Experimenting in bed is cool, but let’s get real – choking during sex is no joke! Pornography might have made this trend look hot, but experts are sounding the alarm. A study published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior reveals that even gentle couples who think they know what they’re doing are risking serious consequences. Dr. Debby Herbenick from Indiana University states clearly: “There is no safe way to engage in choking without risk.” While fatal cases are rare, they do happen.
Why is the neck so dangerous? Because it’s super sensitive. Restricting blood flow to the brain, even for a few seconds, can cause permanent damage. Bruises, neck swelling, blurred vision, dizziness, difficulty swallowing – these are just the initial symptoms. People can lose consciousness in just four seconds! And that’s just the start of the nightmare.
Death or paralysis can occur within minutes of choking. Consequences don’t always show up immediately – they can appear days, weeks, or even years later. Voice changes, seizures, memory and concentration problems, depression, anxiety, and even miscarriages can all be caused by choking during sex.
Heather Douglas, co-author of the study, warns that brain injury risks increase with each subsequent choking episode, similar to how head injuries accumulate. Stroke and gradual memory decline are not far-fetched scenarios.
So next time you think “choking” is sexy, remember it’s not just a porn game. It’s a serious matter that can ruin your life. Got something to say about this? Maybe a weird personal story? Drop a comment – we’re here to laugh, learn, and maybe get a little scared together!
