Prokop Reconstruction Without Consultation? Civil Engineering Dean Says No Way!
Have you heard about the latest scandal in Belgrade? The infamous Prokop railway station, opened in 2016, is now under the spotlight due to cracks and issues with the reinforcement. But what’s even worse – no experts from the Civil Engineering Faculty were consulted before announcing the reconstruction! Yes, you read that right.
Who was consulted anyway? The Dean of the Civil Engineering Faculty, Branislav Bajat, clearly stated that they were not consulted. So how can we trust that the reconstruction will be done properly? Serbian Railways Infrastructure claims the station is safe to use, but the fact that cracks appeared and significantly less reinforcement was installed than originally designed raises serious doubts about the construction quality.
What exactly is going on? The planned works include repairing two pillars below the platform level, with a budget of around three million dinars. However, the part of the station built in 2016 is not included in these works. This means problems might just be swept under the rug instead of being solved.
Why does this matter? Prokop was meant to be Belgrade’s central station, but now it looks like it was built hastily and without enough expertise. If experts are not consulted, who guarantees the station’s safety? Should citizens worry about their safety every time they use this facility?
Conclusion? This is yet another example of how important decisions in Serbia are made without transparency and without involving relevant experts. If this continues, we can expect more problems and scandals. What do you think? Is Prokop really safe, or is it just a matter of time before an accident happens? Share your thoughts, maybe together we’ll uncover more secrets behind this “reconstruction”!
