Digital Revolution in Kotor’s Water Supply: Remote Meter Reading Changes the Game

Imagine a world where you no longer have to wait for meter readers to knock on your door! The Municipality of Kotor has launched a pilot project for remote water meter reading in Risno, using cutting-edge LoRaWAN technology that enables wireless, precise, and automatic monitoring of water consumption. Igor Kumburović, the deputy mayor, proudly states this is the first step towards digitalizing the water supply system, aiming to reduce operating costs and losses in the network.

This system not only saves money but also protects water — a precious resource. Modules have been installed that send data directly to a central system without the need for manual readings on-site. Two high-precision industrial water meters with vertical turbines measure large flows and allow constant monitoring, timely leak detection, and system optimization.

LoRaWAN technology is energy-efficient and easily scalable, meaning soon the entire Kotor area can enjoy these benefits. The pilot phase tests signal quality and compatibility with existing software, and based on the results, a strategy for wider implementation will be prepared.

This is not just a technological upgrade but a significant leap towards digital transformation of municipal services, more efficient water resource management, and better quality of life for citizens and businesses. If you thought digitalization was only for big cities, Kotor is showing that smaller towns can be smart and efficient too.

Ready to forget about those annoying meter readers and enter an era where water tells you how much you’ve used? If you have an opinion, a joke, or a conspiracy theory about digitalization, feel free to share — we’re here for fun and debate!
