Serbia and Costa Rica: Diplomatic Play or Real Cooperation?
Is this just another diplomatic story that will be quickly forgotten, or can something real actually happen? Marko Đurić, Serbia’s top diplomat, didn’t hesitate to invite Arnold Tinoco, Costa Rica’s foreign minister, to visit Serbia. And not just that – Đurić made it clear Serbia wants cooperation with Costa Rica to go beyond sweet talk and actually strengthen political dialogue and economic ties.
What’s on the table?
They talked about everything – culture, sports, economy, and technology. Đurić especially highlighted potential in agriculture, knowledge transfer, and information and communication technologies (ICT). Will Costa Rica accept the invitation and send representatives to the specialized Expo exhibition? Serbia is waiting for confirmation of their presence at this prestigious event.
Kosovo and Metohija – the eternal topic
Of course, the topic that weighs heaviest on Serbia’s mind came up – the status of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija. Đurić used the chance to inform Tinoco about Serbia’s positions and readiness to regularly share updates on the Belgrade-Priština dialogue. Will Costa Rica side with Serbia or stay neutral? That question remains open.
Why does this matter?
Serbia and Costa Rica have a long history of diplomatic relations, but how much has it really been used? In a world where alliances are made and broken fast, these invitations and talks could be the start of something big or just another diplomatic formality. Đurić clearly wants to strengthen communication between the two foreign ministries, but will that be enough to move things off dead center?
Conclusion
All in all, this is a chance for Serbia to broaden its diplomatic horizons and for Costa Rica to get involved in European and Balkan affairs. But as always, the true measure of success will be in concrete results, not pretty words and invitations. Will we soon see real steps, or will this just be another diplomatic story filed away?
So, what do you think about these diplomatic games? Just empty talk or a real shot for Serbia and Costa Rica? Drop a comment and let’s see who’s in and who’s out!
