Imagine living in the 21st century but being forced to live as tenants, without a home of your own, because you have nowhere to settle! This isn’t a scene from a dark movie, but the harsh reality of the Grebović family from Sjenica. Marija Grebović has been blind since she was 17. Together with her husband Radan and their son Vukola, they live on the edge of survival, renting a place they can barely afford. Often, their only meal comes from a public kitchen. Radan wants to work but can’t leave Marija alone, so he does all the housework. Although they own a house and land in the village of Bare, the nearest doctor is over 50 kilometers away, making life there impossible.
Philanthropist Hido Muratović, who has built nearly 60 houses for forgotten people, wants to help and give them a home. But there’s a huge problem — they can’t find a plot of land to build on. The Grebović family has visited about 20 addresses, but everywhere they are rejected as soon as people learn Marija is blind and they have a small child. Hido is asking the municipality for just 23 ares of land, no money, just a place to build a 50-square-meter house and give this family hope for a better life.
Their 8-year-old son Vukola has only one wish — to have his own room and a roof over his head. This isn’t just one family’s story; it’s a story about a system that fails the most vulnerable. While Hido Muratović builds houses and tries to change lives, the state and society remain blind to their struggles. Will we let stories like this be forgotten? Or will we finally stand up and help those who need it most? Got a comment, a joke, or a wild idea? Drop it below — maybe your words will change someone’s life!
