Ah, Republika Srpska and its president Milorad Dodik are back in the spotlight! This time, Dodik declared that the institutions of Republika Srpska will continue to nurture a “culture of memory.” Yes, you read that right – a culture of memory, but not just any, one focused on Serbian victims, with a clear message that forgetting is not an option.
Dodik posted on his IKS network account that it is necessary to seek justice for all missing Serbs, reminding everyone of tragedies like Srebrenica and Bratunac, which, as he says, obligate Republika Srpska. But let’s be honest – how many times have we heard these words? How many times has justice truly been served?
At the same time, Dodik attended the commemoration of the Nevesinje Uprising anniversary, recalling the brave fighters for freedom and claiming that with this uprising, they became part of the history and identity of the Serbian people. It all sounds like a textbook patriotic speech, but what is really going on behind the scenes?
While Dodik is busy nurturing this culture of memory, Republika Srpska faces numerous problems – from political turmoil within the opposition, through economic challenges, to issues of justice and reconciliation. Is this “culture of memory” just another political tool to maintain the status quo?
And while Dodik tries to present Republika Srpska as a bastion of justice and remembrance, many citizens wonder – when will real change finally come? When will justice truly be served, and not just used as an excuse for political games?
If you have your own take on all this, feel free to share it. Maybe it’s time to stop pretending that forgetting is not an option and start looking for solutions that will actually change things.
